Savor the Moment at the End

I just received a text out of the blue from a client that I had done a lot of work for in my last job. They were inviting me to see their brand new home as it is finished and they want everyone involved to see how well it has turned out. I felt very special. What a lovely thing to do. Unfortunately they have to sell it, so I just went online and had a sneak peak at the for sale photos on the real estate agent’s website before I go and visit tomorrow. It looks amazing, I am so thrilled for them.
It is a wonderful feeling to see a project that you have been involved in finished. I don’t know about you, but I am always so busy that often finish one thing and I am straight onto the next without stopping to savor the moment and look at the results of all the hard work. (I am suddenly realizing why they have a lot of emphasis on the end of a marathon, you cross the line and everyone cheers and your photo gets taken for making it to the end.) So tomorrow I am going to take some time out of my busy day painting the house and visit this brand new house and enjoy seeing a job well done.

Sit back and enjoy the end of the project. Savor the moment.

A Special Story

There is a story behind this project that makes it even more special. When I started working with this couple, they were in their early nineties in 2013. They never would have chosen to be building a new house at this age but the Christchurch Earthquake in 2011 meant they had no choice, their home was on a hill and there was a great deal of damage to hill properties. They were attached to another property and unfortunately this home had less damage and was only classed as an earthquake repair. Due to their home being on the downward slope it was going to be a difficult rebuild to leave the other home where it was and demolish the lower house. After years of battling insurance companies and a lot of heartache, the house above was deemed a rebuild and the project was able to proceed. Unfortunately half way through the husband passed away before this decision came through. It was very sad after all the hard work of dealing with insurance companies and builders for him not to be there at the end. The lovely wife, has had to move into a retirement village so the house could be demolished and rebuilt, but she is still fighting fit and has a memory that I would love to have!

Her daughter has been amazing and they have gone through the remainder of the journey together choosing all the fittings and fixtures, colours, working on the kitchen and bathroom design, visiting the site as the house was under construction. I think it will be a special day tomorrow to see them again and lets hope that she makes it to 100 years old!

Celebrate your Successes and Savor the Moment

Its times like this that you really do get rewards for all the hard work you put into a project, so I just want to remind you to always make some time to enjoy the finished result and don’t forget to take photos for your CV, business portfolio, website, blog or Facebook – however you promote your business.

As I finished the post talking about marketing your business, Chris has written some articles on ways to do this. You can find them at marketing design business.
